Self Confidence | 3 ways how to build confidence

There isn’t anyone who wouldn’t benefit from learning how to gain increased self-confidence.  The ability to reach your potential is increased exponentially if you have a high self-confidence.
Things become easier when you have a high level of self-confidence. Talents and skills get put to better use when you work on building up your own positive self-esteem.

What is Self-Confidence?

Merriam-Webster dictionary defines Self-Confidence as “Confidence in oneself and in one’s powers and abilities”.
In other words according to Wikipedia, Self-confidence means it is a power or abilities of oneself to do things, it is a good feeling about yourself and your self-assurance in your personal judgment, ability, and power.

Benefits of developing your self-confidence

Low self-confidence is usually expressed in putting oneself down not only in public but most significantly, in the self-talk you tend to have with yourself, which gets programmed in your mind and turns into a recurring mindset or talking about yourself. Sometimes, people tend to make fun of themselves in a derogatory way. This habit does not help in any way to increase self-confidence. Low self-confidence holds you back from enjoying many aspects of life including unfulfilling relationships, profession, and personal growth.

One of the key ingredients in the area to personal improvement is building self-confidence so as to live life to the full and harnessing your capability. Learning to boost your self-confidence will save you from toxic relationships, stagnant job and even difficulty in getting a job, a few examples.

But there’s good news: nothing stays still in perpetuity and with some effort, you can flip things around, start to see a significant shift in your degree of confidence.

There is a simple philosophy I would like to share with you.   The strategy is in use today but originated from the Greeks thousands of years ago.   Be yourself and gain your self-confidence at the same time.

Step 1:  Who are you?

Understanding who you are is a good initial step in teaching yourself how to build self-confidence.  Low self-confidence often is a product of allowing other individual’s opinion’s impact you.  Or, letting circumstances out of your control determine your personal worth.  You need to determine what is important to you and turn off any external distractions that may be influencing you.  Journaling is one option to assist you in identifying these important things in your life.
The process of self-discovery turns into a process of increasing your self-esteem.  You do not want to become what you think is important to other people.
Another tool towards increased self-esteem is to learn about how your body works, the complexity of your brain & how it works.  This process gives you an appreciation for yourself and increases a sense of amazement about yourself.
The more you know yourself, the better for you to begin the next step to increase your self-esteem.

Step 2:  Control Yourself

The truth of learning how to gain self-confidence is teaching yourself to control and focus your thoughts and your inner conversations. This means you need self-control, which requires specific and concentrated training… just as you can build up your strength and muscles by training at the rec center. However, many people never mature their self-control, because they see this as restricting their freedom, but that’s not what it is.  As you gain control over your thoughts and actions, you are freed up to achieve the things you really want out of life, by using your thoughts to accomplish this.
In other words, the more you can control yourself, the easier it becomes to build confidence in your abilities and stick to your commitments, to others and yourself. This will allows you to move to the last step of building self-esteem.

Step 3:  Give of Yourself

As you start getting to know yourself better and learn to control yourself, you’ll instinctively start looking for a way to use your fresh sense of confidence to give to others. This need for contribution is spiritual, it gives you a sense of meaning and multiplies your understanding of your valueConsider this, many individuals who are insecure also withdraw from others.   This is known as “self-rejection.”   But finding meaning in your life, which allows you to make a contribution to others, helps you look away from yourself and your own insecurities and hardships.

Practice these all three steps.  You’ll gain self-confidence, you’ll increase your positive self-esteem, you’ll turn into your best…the individual you knew in your heart that you were. You will regain control of your life back. You will be an inspiration to others as your life becomes a view of the principles building self-confidence.
